Rise-Run Online Calculator
Use this calculator if you know the height and angle. This calculator will give you the distance out (the run) and the height of the climbing surface. Note, to get the marking distance from the wall you will need to add the thickness of the 2 x 4 (or 2 x 6 if used). For example, if the climbing surface is braced by 2 x 4s against the wall, then the start of the plywood climbing surface is 3 1/2" from the wall, so add 3 1/2" to the calculated distance to find the marking distance on the ceiling. The same applies to the vertical distance down from the ceiling caused by the thickness of the top plate.

Use this calculator if you know the angle and length of climbing surface (hypotenuse). This calculator will give you the height and distance. This is helpful if you have a set distance for your climbing wall, for example 8' or 12', and you have your angle, but need to know how high and the distance out (away from the support frame). Compensate for the thickness of the support frame and top plate thickness when finding the marking distance on the ceiling.
